About Me:
It is no secret that life can be challenging at times. I am here to help you through those times and to ensure that you feel heard and supported. Let me introduce myself: Hello, my name is Lena, and I am a second year master’s student in the Advanced Clinical Practice Program at the School of Social Work at Columbia University in New York City. Prior to starting this journey, I received by BA from Fordham University in Social Work. My practice and approach to mental health is also grounded in my identity as a gay, cisgendered, Asian woman.
My Approach:
In session, we will work together to discover techniques that will enable you be able to better self-regulate your emotions, while improving your day-to-day functioning. Together, we will create and equip you with coping skills and tools that you can use in new and stressful situations/experiences. These tools/skills will be individualized and tailored to what works best for you, so that you get the most out of this experience. I will use a range of therapeutic techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy. My focus is on anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, personality disorders, and grief. I truly believe that each person has the right to a happy, fulfilled life, and together we can navigate those challenges that are keeping you away from achieving that state.
What to expect:
Overall, I will act as a supportive ear. I am happy to listen to whatever you have to say (nothing is too big or too little). You can expect a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can process your feelings, emotions, needs, wants, and challenges. I am fully committed to understanding who you are as a person, your story and the experiences that have shaped who you are. I am here for you when you need someone who will listen to you with support and guidance.
