Amanda Marvin

Therapist-in-training

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your emotions or struggled to find your voice amid life's challenges? My name is Amanda, and I’m here to help you navigate those feelings. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Social Work at Binghamton University, building on my Bachelor’s in Social Work from SUNY Plattsburgh and my Associate’s degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Corning Community College.

I have extensive experience working with adults facing severe and persistent mental illnesses, including major depressive disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, and other complex conditions. My passion for supporting individuals through their mental health journeys has been shaped by my hands-on work in a variety of settings, including my current employment, where I specialize in helping those with severe mental health issues. I also completed my associate’s fieldwork at an Adult Rehabilitation Center, where I provided support to individuals dealing with a wide range of social and life issues, including substance abuse. Throughout my associate’s degree, I also worked as a Peer Recovery Advocate for Corning Community College’s Collegiate Recovery Center.  My BSW fieldwork at Arnot Hospital’s Social Work Department further honed my skills in trauma-informed care, which remains a core aspect of my therapeutic approach.

In our sessions, we’ll work collaboratively to develop strategies that empower you to manage your emotions, cope with psychological disorders, or enhance your daily functioning. This may involve using Solution-focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to challenge negative thought patterns, implementing mindfulness practices to help you stay grounded, or employing Motivational Interviewing to strengthen your commitment to change. Whether it’s through self-care, grounding techniques, or exploring past and present traumas, we’ll tailor our approach to fit your unique needs. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and 100% in control of your healing journey.

Trauma-informed care is central to my practice, and I’m committed to providing compassionate, individualized support. Together we will work to build the tools you need to navigate life’s challenges and move towards a healthier, more fulfilling future.
